Contract Award - Procedure Packs15th May 2014
Following a competitive tender exercise BMI has awarded Rocialle a contract for the supply of all procedure packs used in its 63 hospitals.
“We are delighted to have been retained as BMI’s supplier of procedure packs,” said Rocialle’s Managing Director, Stephen Burt. “We have worked hard to provide continuous improvements in service levels and benefits from efficiency gains. Additionally, our clinical and product management specialists have worked closely with BMI’s Procurement and Implementation Leads to maximize the benefits procedure packs bring, by further rationalising the range of packs used across BMI’s hospitals.”
Carol Rylands, BMI’s Head of Procurement (Clinical Sourcing & Implementation), commented “The Implementation of Procedure packs has driven efficiency savings in the past. The focus on range rationalisation and BMI specific core packs in conjunction with Rocialle has given rise to mutually beneficial supply chain benefits.”
A procedure pack can be defined as a presentation of all the surgical consumable items required for a specific procedure, in one sterile pack. Recognition of the considerable benefits provided by procedure trays has seen their adoption increase greatly in recent years. Procedure packs ensure compliance with safety standards set by the Medical Devices Directive and contribute to the control of surgical site infection. By introducing procedure packs, a hospital will make savings in many areas, including throughout the entire material management process. The greatest impact is on the daily routine in the operating theatre; when procedure trays are introduced, trained theatre nurses are no longer occupied by the retrieval and opening of single sterile consumable items.
